was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives
in November 2004 and re-elected in November 2006. He
represents the 100th District, which includes Lake,
Newaygo and Oceana County’s.
At the start of his second term, Hansen was selected
to serve as the Assistant Minority Whip. He
serves on House Appropriations Committee, where he
is the minority vice chair of the Department of Agriculture
Subcommittee and the General Government Subcommittee. He

Rep. Hansen knows first hand the proud and prominent
role agriculture has in our community. He has
been a champion for the industry in Lansing. As

subcommittee on Agriculture, he has written budgets
to provide funding in the areas of food safety, consumer
protection, emergency management, economic development

by trying to keep the former Michigan Youth Correctional
Facility (MYCF) open in Lake County. For two
years, he presented numerous options to the Granholm
administration that would have allowed the facility
to remain operational while protecting jobs and local
tax base. Despite its closure, his strong advocacy
effort continues by working with local leaders and
company officials to find a suitable tenant for the
facility.
Representative Hansen has dedicated himself to improving
the quality of life for our families and communities,
both as a private citizen and public servant. He
has been an advocate for protecting valuable local
jobs, keeping sex offenders out of classrooms, establishing
high standards in education, supporting early childhood
development programs as well as important community
development programs.

for his work in the Legislature, including the Legislator
of the Year Award from the Michigan Community Action
Agency Association, Literacy Advocate Award from
the Public Enrichment Foundation, Agricultural Advocate
Award from the Michigan Agribusiness Association,

Drink Association, and a Legislative Leadership Award

County.

Governments as a Fellow to the Bowhay Institute for
Legislative Leadership Development program.
